Taa'a Yuku Radar privacy policy
For the Taa'a Yuku Radar app on Windows, Android and Linux. Short version: no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and the app sends nothing to us.
Who we are
Taa'a Yuku Radar is free, open-source software made by Riøt (RiotTheClanker on GitHub), an individual developer. Its source code is public at github.com/RiotTheClanker/radar-app, so anyone can check what it does.
What we collect
Nothing. The app has no accounts, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising, and it never sends anything to us. There is no server of ours that it talks to.
What stays on your device
Your settings, the addons you install, colour tables you import and snapshots you save are stored only on your device. Uninstalling the app, or deleting its folder, removes them.
Services the app contacts
To show the weather, the app downloads data directly from public services. Like any website you visit, each of them sees your IP address and a user agent naming the app and its version. Nothing else about you is sent.
- Weather data: NOAA and the National Weather Service (api.weather.gov, spc.noaa.gov, aviationweather.gov, rucsoundings.noaa.gov), and NOAA's open data hosted on Amazon Web Services.
- Maps: CARTO, OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap and Esri, for the basemap you choose, and the AWS Terrain Tiles dataset for 3D terrain.
- Lightning: Blitzortung, when that lightning source is switched on.
- Addons and updates: riot-the-clanker.com or GitHub, when you install an addon from a link or download a new version.
Your location
The app uses your location only to open on the radar nearest you, and to centre the map when you tap the location button. Nothing is asked for at startup, and everything works with location turned off.
- If you allow it, the app uses your device's GPS. Your position stays on the device.
- If you don't, or GPS isn't available, it asks ipapi.co for an approximate, city-level location based on your IP address. ipapi.co receives your IP address to answer.
Addons
Addons are files written by other people. An addon can make the app download data from servers its author chose, and those servers will see your IP address. Only install addons you trust. The official addons in the gallery use public government and map services.
Permissions
- Internet: to download radar data, maps and addons.
- Location (optional): see above.
- Storage: to save snapshots, and to read colour tables and addons you add.
Children
The app doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Every change is public in the site's repository.
