ProtoFace privacy policy
For the ProtoFace visor firmware and the Protogen AnimFile Maker desktop tool. Short version: neither connects to the internet or sends anything to us.
Who we are
ProtoFace and the AnimFile Maker are free, open-source projects by Riøt (RiotTheClanker on GitHub). Their source code is public: ProtoFace and AnimFile Maker.
ProtoFace firmware
- No internet. The firmware doesn't use Wi-Fi or connect to any server, and it collects nothing.
- Bluetooth LE. The visor advertises itself as "ProtoFace" so a phone or computer can connect and send commands. Anyone nearby can see that name, and anyone in Bluetooth range can connect while it's advertising. Nothing is sent to us.
- Microphone. The visor measures how loud it is, to make animations react to sound. Only the loudness level is used, moment to moment; no sound is recorded or stored.
- SD card. Animations are read from the SD card in the visor and stay there.
Protogen AnimFile Maker
- No internet. The tool doesn't connect to any server, and it collects nothing.
- Files. It only opens and saves the files you choose.
- Microphone (optional). If you switch the microphone on to preview sound-reactive animations, the sound is measured live on your computer and never recorded, stored or sent anywhere.
The online flasher
Flashing from the website is covered by the website privacy policy. In short: the site fetches the firmware for you from GitHub, and your browser writes it to the board. Nothing on your computer or the board is sent to us.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Every change is public in the site's repository.
